What you need to know about a massage

Massage is a systematic manual or mechanical manipulation of the soft tissues of the body by movements such as rubbing, kneading, pressing, rolling, stroking, slapping and tapping for therapeutic purposes to promote circulation of the blood and lymph, relaxation of muscles, relief from pain and restoration of metabolic balance. There are many different approaches to massage and its application. Massage is a holistic procedure that affects all systems of the body, digestive, elimination, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and endocrine and nervous systems. A massage is great for relaxation and overall health, it is usually performed to relieve muscle stiffness, spasms or cramps and to relieve anxiety and tension. It can also improve your health and well-being, and sustains good health, physically, emotionally and mentally. Massages are performed on people of all ages, conditions and lifestyles to alleviate stress related conditions such as backache, neck pain, migraine, sore muscles and the like. Each individual responds differently to a massage and there isn’t just one style which is best of all. Basic massage techniques stimulate physical and emotion healing by providing physical therapy on the part of the body that is being massaged, stimulating the lymphatic system which carries waste products out of the body and defends your body against infections. Many of today’s health problems arise from stress and stress upsets the delicate integral balance of all your body’s functions therefore regaining this balance requires the holistic approach of massage.
